The Eight of Cups tarot card means leaving behind what no longer feeds the heart, even when built with care. A traveller in a red cloak walks away with his staff toward the mountains under an eclipsed moon, his back to eight golden cups: five in a lower row and three above, with a gap in the upper row. Upright it is the honest departure; reversed it is the return, or the leaving refused.
