The Moon tarot card means walking by reflected light: intuition, dreams and uncertainty, where fears take shapes that daylight would correct. Card XVIII shows a face in a crescent within a golden disc, falling drops, two grey towers, a dog and a wolf baying, a crayfish climbing from a pool and a path winding to the hills. Upright it is the uncertain road walked with care; reversed it is the mist beginning to lift.

Reflected light. The moon has no light of its own; it returns the sun's. Waite calls the card the life of the imagination apart from the life of the spirit, and the light of the mind a reflection beyond which lies a mystery it cannot show. Intuition, feeling and dream are true instruments, yet by this light they give outlines and leave the certainty for morning.
