The Sun tarot card means joy, success and clarity: life lived in full daylight, with nothing hidden and nothing to fear. Card XIX shows a great sun with a serene face and straight and wavy rays, a child with a red feather riding a white horse, a tall red banner, a grey wall and four sunflowers. Upright it is happiness, vitality and plain success; reversed it is the same light, softened or briefly clouded.

Waite writes that the light of the world to come is typified by the heart of a child. Older decks showed two children before a wall; the 1909 composition replaces them with one child riding out from the walled garden of the sensitive life, which Waite calls the better symbolism.
