In reverse the mourner begins to turn toward recovery. Waite gives news, alliances, affinity, kinship, ancestry and return, along with false projects. The head lifts: a letter arrives, family draws close, an old friend returns, or a scheme that was never sound is finally set aside. Acceptance begins, and the two standing cups come into view. Sometimes the reversal shows grief that has been avoided and never felt, and then the turn will not hold until the loss is acknowledged. Name what was lost, honour it, and walk toward the bridge with the cups that remain.

An interpretive parallel between two traditions, offered as a teaching aid. It is not a scriptural citation, and neither tradition is said to describe the other.

The Bhagavad Gita opens with Arjuna overcome by sorrow, and its first chapter is named for that despondency, vishada. The teaching begins only when he turns from his grief to listen. The bridge on this card can be read as a tirtha, literally a ford or crossing place, the word Indian tradition uses for sacred sites where one passes from one shore to another. The two standing cups are what remains to carry across.
