The Knight of Swords tarot card means swift, decisive action driven by a clear idea: courage, conviction and speed. An armoured knight charges at full gallop toward the left on a white horse, sword raised high, red plume and cloak streaming, while clouds race and trees bend in the wind. Upright it is bold action for a cause; reversed it is haste that outruns judgement.

A knight in silver-grey armour patterned with gold, a visored helmet pushed up from his face, leans forward in the saddle. His jaw is set and his eyes are fixed on the direction of travel. Waite says he is riding in full course, as if scattering his enemies.

One straight sword with a gold cross-guard and round pommel, held in the knight's gauntleted fist and thrust high above the horse's head toward the upper left corner.

Read the plume to gauge temperature. Upright, passion serves the cause. Reversed, it is anger looking for a target. Suggest one deliberate pause, a breath or a night's sleep, before any message sent in heat.

In questions of pace and stamina, read the horse. A short gap can be crossed on this push. In reverse the mount is tiring, so plan the rest before the effort, well ahead of any collapse.

An armoured rider drives a white horse at full gallop, sword lifted high, plume and cloak streaming back in the wind. The Knight of Swords upright is the decisive mind in motion. Waite's meanings run from skill, bravery and capacity to defence and address, and he pictures a hero of romantic chivalry riding out against his enemies. The card often appears when a decision has been made and action is beginning: a campaign launched, a truth spoken, a problem tackled head on. It may also describe a person who is quick, articulate and ready to argue for what they believe. Move with courage and keep the motive clean.
