When the gaze turns to fretting, the pause has gone wrong in one of two ways. Waite gives cause for anxiety about money, particularly money one is asked to lend, so a request for a loan or a share of your savings deserves a careful look. Modern readers add impatience: digging up the seed to see whether it has sprouted, abandoning a project just before it would have paid, or labouring over something that has stopped growing. Tell the two apart before acting. Sit down to a clear, unhurried review. List what the effort has produced so far, decide whether the method is sound, change one thing if it is not, and say no to any loan you cannot afford to lose.
