A tall angel in a long white robe sprigged with gold, golden curls framed by a ring of rays, standing calmly at the edge of a pool. Waite speaks of the figure in the masculine but adds that it is neither male nor female.
The mediator. The angel stands between heaven and earth, land and water, and holds both without leaning toward either. Waite explains the title: when this rule governs consciousness, it tempers, combines and harmonises the inner and the material natures.
White, falling straight to the ankles with a gold border. Purity that is not severe: the robe is plain, and the gold is a quiet ornament on its hem and sleeves.

Upright: a calm mediator is present, in the querent or near them. Reversed: someone has stepped off the middle ground and taken a side too early. Send them back to the edge of the pool, where both sides can be held again.
