The guide

When to use this spread

Use the career spread for one working situation: a role that has stalled, a business finding its feet, or a search for work that has gone on too long. It is built to end in action, because the advice card comes before the outcome and the outcome depends on it. It reads one situation at a time. When two offers sit on the table and you must pick between them, lay the decision spread, which gives each road its own line of cards. A question that is really about salary, debt or savings belongs in the money and business spread. To trace how your working life arrived at this point, start with the past, present, future spread and come back here for the next move.

How to lay the Career spread: 5 cardsLay the five cards in a single row from left to right: where you stand, your strength, the obstacle, the advice, the outcome. The row reads like a short argument. The first three cards state the problem and the last two answer it. Keep a little more space between the third and fourth cards than between the others, so the eye sees the turn from problem to answer.12345YOU SIT HERE

How to lay it out

Lay the five cards in a single row from left to right: where you stand, your strength, the obstacle, the advice, the outcome. The row reads like a short argument. The first three cards state the problem and the last two answer it. Keep a little more space between the third and fourth cards than between the others, so the eye sees the turn from problem to answer.

What each position asks

  1. Where you stand आप कहाँ खड़े हैं

The first card is an honest report on your working position now, what the work feels like from the inside. It comes first because advice given without a true starting point is guesswork. A reversed card here often shows fatigue or a stance that has hardened, and it deserves to be taken seriously.

  2. Your strength आपकी शक्ति

The second card names the asset you bring, the skill or quality the situation can draw on. It sits beside your starting point because it is already yours, even if you are not using it. When this card is a modest one, an apprentice's card or a Page, the strength is your capacity to learn.

  3. The obstacle बाधा

The third card is what stands in front of you. Read its suit and its figure for the source, which may lie in the workplace or in your own habits. Placed after the strength, it raises a practical question: which of the two is larger, and how can the second card meet the third?

  4. The advice परामर्श

The fourth card is the counsel of the spread, the action or attitude that answers the obstacle. Turn it into a verb before you finish with it, something you can do this week. A Major Arcana card here carries extra weight, since the advice then concerns a principle and a tactic will not satisfy it.

  5. The outcome परिणाम

The last card shows where the course leads if the advice is taken. It is conditional, which is why it comes after the advice. If it is gentler or harder than you expected, reread the advice card, since the two belong together.

One reading, start to finish

A worked example

A 27-year-old civil engineer in Nagpur, four years at a road contractor's firm, who has sat the state engineering services exam twice without making the merit list.

"How do I move my career forward from here?"
1 · Where you stand

Nine of Wands दंडों का नौReversed

A young man with a white bandage round his head grips one staff and glances sideways, eight more planted behind him like a fence. Upright he is the wounded guard who has not left his post. Reversed, he has stood too long. Two attempts without his name on the list, and three years of relatives asking about the result at every wedding, have left him tired and braced for the next question. The library reads the reversal as a guard who has become a wall: he now defends his plan against everyone, including those who could help. Before any decision, the card asks for proper rest and one trusted ally let inside the fence.

2 · Your strength

Eight of Pentacles मुद्राओं का आठ

A craftsman sits on a bench cutting a star into a coin, six finished discs hung on the post beside him and one leaning at its foot. Waite reads work, employment and skill in craft, perhaps still in its preparatory stage. That is his real strength, and he undervalues it: four years on site and a name with the contractor for checking every road layer himself. The discs on the post are finished pieces of work that anyone can inspect. Exam marks are one measure of an engineer, and this card holds up the other.

3 · The obstacle

The Hanged Man लटका हुआ पुरुषReversed

A young man hangs by one ankle from a living T-shaped tree, his face calm and a halo round his head. Upright, that is a pause taken on purpose. Reversed, it is a pause that has stopped teaching anything. For three years his life has been arranged around the next exam date; he has declined a transfer to a better site and kept every spare rupee for coaching fees. The library reads the reversal as stalling dressed as deliberation. The obstacle is the suspension itself, a decision held open so long that others have begun to make it for him.

4 · The advice

Justice न्याय

A crowned woman sits between two grey pillars, a sword held straight up in one hand and level scales in the other, both pans empty. Justice is card XI and the Hanged Man XII, so the advice stands one step before the obstacle in the order of the Major Arcana. He has been hanging without first weighing. The card asks him to put the whole case on the table, including the parts that do not flatter him: his marks against the cut-off each year, and the hours he can truly give to study beside a site job. The pans are empty because he has not yet loaded them. That work is his.

5 · The outcome

Ace of Pentacles मुद्राओं का इक्का

A hand from a cloud holds out a single gold coin over a garden of white lilies, and beyond them an arch in the hedge opens onto a path toward the mountains. The result of weighing honestly is a material beginning, an opening he can hold in his hand. Its likeliest form is already in view, since his firm has offered him charge of a site on a new highway package. An Ace is a seed with the gate already open. What grows from it depends on the first season's work, and the Eight of Pentacles says he knows how to do that work.

Synthesis

All four elements are present, and Earth comes twice, in the strength and in the outcome. That is the spine of the reading: the practical, visible work of his hands opens it and closes it. His present state is Fire, the guard on his last reserves, and the long suspension is the Water the Golden Dawn gives the Hanged Man. Justice brings Air, the clear head, and it stands exactly where the spread needs one. The two Majors are neighbours in number, XI and XII, and neighbours in the spread, and their order is the lesson. In the Major Arcana Justice comes first: weigh and decide, and only then accept whatever patience the decision asks for. He has taken them the other way round, hanging for three years without the weighing. The two reversals, the tired guard and the stalled pause, are two faces of that one mistake. So the plain answer is that his career moves forward when the waiting ends by his own choice, before another exam date arrives to make it for him, and the cards lean toward the work already in his hands. His next step is this Sunday. On one sheet he writes two columns, the third attempt and the site-in-charge role, with his real marks against the real cut-offs and what each path pays, and he gives his manager an answer before the month is out.

Before you lay it

Common mistakes

  • Reading the outcome card first and working backwards from it. Read the advice before the outcome, because the outcome holds only if the advice is followed.
  • Taking the strength card as a compliment and moving on. Find the concrete skill or habit it names and put it to use in the coming week.
  • Asking the career spread to choose between two offers. It reads one working situation, so for two roads side by side lay the decision spread.
  • Letting the reading stand in for the figures. Use the cards to see your stance, then check salaries and notice periods on paper before you act.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can tarot tell me if I will get the job?

A career reading describes your position in the process and what stands in your way, and it shows where the present course points. For a single direct answer, use the yes or no spread with a question about your own action, such as "Should I follow up on this application now?"

When should I do a career tarot reading before an interview or a review?

A few days before is better than the same morning, because it leaves time to act on the advice card. Write the advice as one action and do it before you walk in.

What does a reversed outcome card mean in a career spread?

Usually that the result comes later than hoped or asks for more preparation first. Go back to the advice card and make it more specific, since the reversal is pointing at the gap between the plan and the follow-through.

How does the Career spread work?

You ask your question, shuffle, and choose 5 cards. Each card is read in its position, then the reading closes with a synthesis that joins them.

Is the reading free?

Today's card, yes or no, past-present-future and the Celtic Cross are free, three readings a day without an account. The other spreads are part of Premium.

What does a reversed card mean?

A reversed card is the same energy turned inward, delayed or asked for differently. TarotPandit never reads it as a closed door: every reversal names a step.

Are the readings in Hindi?

Every reading comes in English and Hindi. Use the language button to choose which leads.
